National Law Day also known as Samvidhan Diwas is celebrated on 26th November every year in India to commemorate the constitution of India. On 26 November 1949 the constituent assembly formally adopted the Indian constitution and it came into force on 26 January 1950 which is observed as republic day every year.
The two month period between adoption and enforcement of the constitution for used for a Thor reading and translation from English to Hindi the constituent assembly met for 166 days spread over 2 years 11 months and 18 days before the constitution was adopted.

The Indian government declared 26 November as constitution day on 19th November 2015 by a gazette notification.
the prime minister of India Narendra Modi made the declaration on 11th October 2015 while laying the foundation stone of the B. R. Ambedkar's statue of equality memorial in Mumbai. The year of 2015 was the 125th anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar who had chaired the drafting committee of the constituent assembly and played a very vital role in the drafting of the constitution. Previously this day was celebrated as law day. 26 November was chosen to spread the importance of the constitution and to spread that thoughts and ideas of Ambedkar.
Main purposes of celebrating law day.
- To access the state of law and administration of justice
- To suggest ways and means to recover our legal and judicial system
- To reinforce the bar and bench relationship
- To toughen the independence of the judiciary
- Embrace the freedom of legal profession
- To sustain and enlarge public confidence in our legal system and judicial scheme.
The pivotal idea of celebrating law day is to create awareness and to identify and to remove the hurdles in the effective working of the legal and judicial system .
Above all, it is our duty to progress the public image of the legal profession and the judiciary.
So, let's all of us come together and maintain rule of law for a better future of our nation.
